Beaudin Bennett – Podcast 3: A Sunday Morning Walk to Work

Post type:
Blog post

Wow, you really notice how many times you say ‘uh’ and ‘um’ when you spend time putting a podcast together using audio clips of your own voice.  Nonetheless, here is my third and final podcast.  Coming to you from hot and humid Dhaka…in this podcast I take you, the listener, along with me on the walk to work and discuss a few of the things I have learned during my five months here in Bangladesh.  I’m hoping it will give an audio impression of what a few minutes in this city feels like and more.  Walk with me!

Beaudin Bennett – Podcast 2: Interview with WARBE's Project Coordinator Kamrul Hasan

Post type:
Blog post

In this second podcast I stumble, fumble and bumble (but not mumble) my way through a casual interview with Kamrul Hasan, a co-worker and friend.  Kamrul, Project Coordinator at the Welfare Association for the Rights of Bangladeshi Emigrants (WARBE) Development Foundation, offers some insight into his work as a project coordinator, migration issues in Bangladesh, and the challenges facing WARBE today.  He concludes the interview with a few tips for incoming interns or anyone wishing to travel in Bangladesh.  Please visit www.warbe.org for more information on the migrants' rig

Beaudin Bennett - Blog Entry 3: Dhaka When the Sun Goes Down

The road is deserted.  A vast expanse of asphalt and not a single car or bus to spoil the sight.  Flat and empty.  Almost lonely.  This isn’t a Manitoba secondary highway on a summer Sunday evening.  This is Dhaka at 3 am in April.  And for once there is no traffic in view, no diesel fumes hanging thick in the air, and no horns to test your sanity.

Like many good adventures, it started with a late night phone call.  I was in bed, watching a movie on my laptop and basking in the privilege of privacy, enjoying the feel of clean feet on flannel sheets and gloating at the impotent buzzing of insects outside of the mosquito net.

Travel, among other things, is a sensory ‘trip’ and in the city of Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh, this is especially true.  Below I introduce the reader to just a few of the different sights and sounds you might have during a day in Dhaka.  Sit back, read this blog, and let your imagination take you to the dusty, hazy sprawl that is Dhaka.  Please check back regularly…
