Jamie Myrah - Blog 3: Towards the Next Great Life-Altering Adventure

Post type:

Internships provide for a unique working experience. They are an opportunity to try a certain kind of job on for size; to apply your skills and knowledge in a new arena; and - in the context of being a university student - to get out of the classroom and ground our learning in a world beyond our own. An internship done while in the midst of doing a degree is about far more than knowledge transfer and skills development. It's about exploration. It's about taking the next step towards crafting your future.

Jamie Myrah - Blog 2: It's Time to Make Friends with Facebook

Post type:
Blog post

Moving to India has reinvigorated my love affair with Facebook. It has become a lifeline to home - the easiest way to share pictures and updates of my adventures abroad; to chat with friends and family; and to generally stay in touch with the people and issues I care about. Email, phone calls, and even video-calling still play a role, but the interactive nature of Facebook, combined with it's functionality and diverse applications, easily make it the most important communication tool I have at my disposal.

Jamie Myrah - Podcast 2: Rays of Hope: Bringing Light to the Shadow of Patriarchy in India

Post type:
Blog post

Hello... welcome to my second podcast, a reflection on some of my experiences of patriarchy in India. Insipired by a recent incident I witnessed on the street in Delhi, I contemplate my own relative safety in this notoriously unsafe city, giving consideration to some of the complex factors that make women vulnerable to violence. Based on some of my work at PRIA I also discuss why I'm hopeful that the dream of equality is as alive and well in India as anywhere else in the world.

Jamie Myrah - Blog 1: The Universal Truth of the Bonding Nature of Food

Post type:
Blog post

Lunchtime is my favourite part of my workday. Perhaps that seems like an obvious, even cliched, statement to make when living in a city as famous for its food as Delhi, but the reasons for it go far beyond the deliciousness of the home-cooked meal that is served. At 1:00 each day, the entire staff of PRIA (Participatory Research in Asia) leave their offices and cubicles for 30 minutes and eat lunch together.
