Marguerite Heyns - Podcast 4: Women in Bangladesh: Slut Shaming and Patriarchy in Cyberspace

Post type:
Blog post

While I was in Bangladesh I met a few absolutely incredible women. They were involved in diverse fields, all bound by feminism and resistance. I was inspired and in awe of all of them and decided I wanted to share their experiences and work. Subsequently I’ve put together a short podcast series documenting these women and their impact through interviews.

Marguerite Heyns - Blog Post 2: Compromise and Complexity

Post type:
Blog post

I’m currently sitting in a café on the bank of the Krabi River attempting to reflect on my experience in Bangladesh over the past five months. It’s hard to pin point exactly how I feel about everything. Since departing the country I’ve had dozens of other travellers ask me how I feel, and what it was like, and I rarely have an accurate response. I suppose that is because I didn’t have just one experience. I can’t tell just one story.

Marguerite Heyns - Blog 1: First Impressions of Bangladesh

Post type:
Blog post

I’ve been living in Bangladesh for more than three months now and this is my first blog post. I could make up a million excuses chronicling why I’ve been so reluctant to share my experience, but what it boils down to is an inadequacy of words. Anything and everything I’ve attempted to write feels like it’s second hand. I still don’t feel like I could make an accurate judgment or convey the breadth of this country—but then again no one can. Instead I am just going to write, and likely ramble, and tell you about intern life in the world’s least habitable city.

In this podcast my fellow intern Jamie Myrah interviews me about who I am, where I'm going and what I'm most looking forward to. Take a listen and learn a bit about the organization I'll be working with and what I think I'll be doing.
